Why obey traffic laws?

December 25th, 2005 @ 11.19 am

Why should I obey traffic laws? No one else does. When driving I try to stay less than 10mph over the speed limit, use my turn indicator, and not run red lights. Sounds simple, eigh? Then why do I find very few people use their turn indicators, even when they have to merge due to their lane ending. It angers me to no end when people assume they can just merge into my lane without signaling or having space. Well, news for them, as an Ultimate player, I know that I am entitled to my position on the field, and the reasonable position momentum is carrying me to. Driving works the same way, and when someone forces me to slow down because they are wandering into my lane, I’ll let them know with my horn. don’t mind letting someone in that wants over when they signal, but someone just coming into my lane may as well be considered a drunk that can’t stay in their lane. And don’t get me started about the people who use exit ramp lanes as passing lanes.

Why should I obey traffic laws? The cops don’t. Once in my lifetime do I remember an officer voluntarily driving the speed limit. In every other instance, I see officers driving a) tailgating some poor sould going 55mph (or whatever the posted speed limit is), or b) flying 10+mph over the speed limit. And often they’re doing 20+ over the speed limit. Last night on Rt 2 I was accelerated from a stoplight to 50mph at a reasonable rate, but the state trooper on my butt was anxious to go faster, and after I got into the right lane he sailed by, then didn’t use his turn indicator to pass the next car in the left lane. When I got pulled over a couple years ago for doing 70 in a 55 it was an unmarked car that had to catch up to get behind me. How fast was he going? Then after I pulled away, he sat for a few seconds, then soon came up and flew by me, and turned into a donut shop.
