Shiny New Job

February 6th, 2006 @ 11.00 pm

One of the challenges of being a mechanical engineer is the broadness of the field. Currently I am designing HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems for buildings, with the focus being on commercial tenants for L2M, an architectural firm with in house MEP engineering and commercial kitchen designers. However, I received a job offer from Niro Inc., a company that specializes in equipment used by the pharmaceutical industry to manufacture drugs.
As I move from one job to the next, I will have a chance to branch out and learn a new area of engineering and get some experience and possibly find a place I really enjoy working. This new position will be very hands on, which is something I don’t get much of at L2M. However, the hours will vary a bit as I will be traveling all across the country (maybe outside the country even?) to where the machinery is, where as at L2M the work day is a constant 8:30 to 5:30 M-F (except when I’ve had tons of work and gone in early/ stayed late). I am thankful for the past nearly year and a half at L2M where I learned a lot in one industry I never thought about working in, and look forward to a new start in another industry I know little about and never thought about working in. Who knows where I’ll go from there, how long I will stay, but wherever I work, I will always be learning, and always trying my best.
