A lovely Sunday drive

April 16th, 2006 @ 11.09 pm

This afternoon Beverly and I headed for my parents house before going to my grandparents for Easter dinner.  Rather than all of us piling into the minivan, I took the opportunity to drive my VW.  So, I first went and filled it up as it was on a 1/4 of a tank that I last filled in July (yes, nine months ago).  Then I had my my parents and brother follow in the minivan, and we headed over to my dad’s parents in Lutherville.  Somehow I wasn’t as nervous driving today (usually I am nervous because I’m just waiting for the car to break, as it has on most trips of some distance), which was unusual, and the car also never had a single problem the whole trip!

In recent weeks I did manage to replace the rear brake shoes, fix a leaky wheel bearing, and adjust the brakes.  Now I don’t know of anything broken on the car (knock on wood), and the brakes even felt the best they ever have since I first messed with them.  Hopefully I’m looking forward to a summer of some cruises with the VW without worry of it breaking down around the next corner.  I’m not sure how far I’ll take it, but I’d like to have it to some local cruise ins (Eldersburg and Mt. Airy), as well as take it to work once or twice.  Who knows, maybe I’ll even take it further a couple times (like Manassas for Bug Out, or Ocean City for Cruisin’ OC), but right now I don’t really know if I’ll have the time to simply attend those events, even without the VW.
