Summer cruise in fun

August 16th, 2006 @ 12.32 am

For only the second time this summer I had the opportunity to drive over to the local cruise in at Home Depot in Eldersburg. With such wonderful weather, the turnout was fairly large with a good selection of cars. For a while I was the only German car, and one of two imports (the other being a Datsun 240Z), but eventually three Porsche 911’s showed up (seperately). The VW ran great as my dad and I cruised over, and I had a great time walking around and snapping a few photos (see the gallery for the new album). I was rather impressed with the quality of the cars there - better than at some local shows I’ve been to in the area.

Earlier in the day I took the VW around the block to make sure it was running ok, and then parked it on the driveway. After sitting for an hour or two, I moved it so I could get some photos of it, and I noticed some gear oil (from the transmission) on the driveway. After poking around a little, I discovered a ripped axle boot. Luckily I had one spare one upstairs, so at 5pm I made dinner wait and dove in and replaced it and added some new gear oil. Prior to the discovery of the problem, I managed to snap off a few photos of the car, including the engine which I didn’t have many photos of. I added those photos to the end of the 65′ VW gallery.
