Life at 200mph

Well, I haven’t been quite driving 200mph. But I was flying at over 500mph for hours on end last week. Since I last posted anything life’s felt like it’s going 200mph. Beverly and I have been working on lot’s of wedding planning (not fast enough for everyone, but we’re doing our best), I’ve spent time working on the VW, my softball team has been losing, and I even spent a week in England.
The month started off with me finishing off reinstalling my VW’s engine with a new oil cooler and no pesky tarboard insulation, then driving it all weekend the 5th and 6th. Then on the 7th I flew to England to do a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for the big project I’ve been working on at work. Last year when I went over we were chauffeured around, but this time I got a “hire car” (ie, rental) and drove myself! I did cheat and get an automatic (uncommon over there), but I can already drive stick so I’m still proud of myself. The trip ended with a quick visit to London and a flight back on Friday.
Friday night I drove up to my parents house and traded in the truck for the VW, and have been driving it everywhere since then. I’ve already done 160 miles since filling up Saturday morning. The car’s been running fairly good, although I think the timing is 2 degrees retarded, and today the engine ran a bit warm (84 degrees outside when I got to Beverly’s, and I was doing 65mph on I-95, and on I-97). I probably should get a real temperature gauge, but for now all I can go by is my oil light - if it flickers when the car is idling, the engine is a bit hot. Unfortunately when driving on highways I’m never idling, so I can’t tell if I’m overheating then or not. At least my “overheating” is really just the hot side of normal, so I’m not too concerned, especially since that is an improvement over the temperatures it previously ran.
