I should be banned from cooking

This evening I volunteered to make dinner, and what a mistake that was. First, I tend towards the one pot style meals. Things such as Hamburger Helper, or “stir fry.” I have to put “stir fry” in quotation marks, because who knows what I’ll make, but it generally tends towards chicken, vegetables, soy sauce and white rice on the side. Tonight I looked through the fridge and freezer, and found a pound of chicken, a bag of frozen bell peppers (pre sliced, ready to serve… after thawing), and a tub of leftover rice. So, from there I started out making a scrambled egg, then cooked the chicken in some veggie oil, and sesame seeds. Not too un-normal at this point.

Once the chicken was cooked, I dumped in the scrambled egg, rice, and veggies. And then I got creative. Beverly had requested to keep the amount of soy sauce down (ie, not too much salt), and so I didn’t use any. Rather, I put in some teriyaki sauce (in total, about 1/6th of a cup… two splashes). And then it just didn’t seem sweet enough, and so I added a large tablespoon of sugar. Just regular plain old sugar. That was because I couldn’t find the brown sugar, which is what I really wanted. And then I thought of something brown and sugary - Log Cabin syrup. So I added a tablespoon of Log Cabin just before the meal was done.

Beverly took the first bite, and she immediately asked what I put in it. I thought it wasn’t that bad… and she won’t admit it, but I think she secretly wished she had my cooking savy. It takes pure genius to think of putting Log Cabin in stir fry, right?
