Garage: Phases 1.2 to 1.4
December 3rd, 2009 @ 9.57 am
September and October I spent every daylight hour I could outside working on the garage, and as of October 30th, the building was ready for final inspection. (Passed on November 12th) Whit and myself carried all of the roof trusses up to roof level one day, and then Beverly’s dad, Beverly and myself uprighted them the next. After that we finished sheathing the side walls, and then sheathed the roof to finish out “phase 1.2.”
After all the framing was done, the garage needed a roof to protect it from the rain, and I’m dubbing that Phase 1.3. It took two weeks only because I did not have a single weekend day to work on it, ran out of shingles at one point, and was out of town for a couple days. But eventually, Beverly and I finished the whole roof, and then quickly moved onto the siding.
During the last week of October we took the whole week off to finish working on the garage. Unfortunately, I managed to come down with the flu, and it rained half of the days, but we still managed to finish the garage. I spent a couple miserable days finishing the trim work and man-door installation while feeling sick and being out in the rain. Then over three (not raining) days we installed all of the vinyl siding and hired a guy to install the garage door.
For all the fun pictures, head over to the gallery.
Looking ahead, I’m going to be running electric out to the garage, hopefully by Christmas. It will either be 60A or 100A, depending mostly on the cost of it. After the electric is run underground, I’ll then be free to put in a driveway. Pavement would be nice, but I’ll probably have gravel put down for a while.
