Why obey traffic laws?

December 25th, 2005 @ 11.19 am

Why should I obey traffic laws? No one else does. When driving I try to stay less than 10mph over the speed limit, use my turn indicator, and not run red lights. Sounds simple, eigh? Then why do I find very few people use their turn indicators, even when they have to merge due to their lane ending. It angers me to no end when people assume they can just merge into my lane without signaling or having space. Read the rest of this entry »

What does it mean to be an engineer?

December 22nd, 2005 @ 10.41 pm

Sometimes I wonder. I don’t question my choice of being an engineer at all, but I do question where my life is going. Do I want to do architectural engineering my whole life? If not, how do I get a job doing something else without experience? Where would another position lead me to? Would I want to take that path? Sometimes I get glimpses that tell me God has a plan for me, but I have no clue what it is. Read the rest of this entry »

Welcome!

December 16th, 2005 @ 12.44 am

Welcome to the new version of my website. The first thing you may notice is the title of www.jeremyweber.com, which I just purchased. The domain name just became available, and so I took it while I had the opportunity. What will I do with it? Probably nothing more than clutter up the world, but I’ll try and make it a place I can share myself with ya’ll.

Right now there isn’t much content, but oh do I have plans. And those plans are nothing less than tried and true, and downright boring. No, I am not going to reinvent the internet. All I plan to do next is get a photo gallery incorporated into the design, upload all the old and some new pictures, add a backlog of old posts from all of my old websites, and a few other details along the way.

Stuff to do:
- Add all past comments to posts
- Fix that “0″ link in the Archives on the sidebar Turns out I made a post dated sometime in 1969…
- Put up a photo gallery
- Create a calendar
- Put up a page for Beverly

new photo galleries

I just posted a gallery dedicated to when the vw has broken down titled vw breakdowns. I have a few pictures from the three most recent breakdowns, and will add more as I attempt to drive the car more. I also added summer league 2005 with pictures from (you guessed it) wednesday night summer league this past summer. The third new gallery is pictures from E.A.R.L. version 2.0 that happened on October 15-16th.
For anyone concerned about my injured ankle, it is still getting better, but I cannot yet run on it at all. The injury occurred against Drexel when I went to catch the disc in the endzone. I got the point, but at the same time the defender’s whole body went into my shin/ ankle full force. I heard a couple pops, and was expecting to see an extra knee when I looked down. Luckily everything looked ok, I just hurt a lot. It seems I most likely pulled a tendon due to my still feeling pain weeks later when I start to actually put force through the ankle. At least I can walk all day long without any pain. Beverly would have liked me to see a doctor, but I am very confident in my self diagnosis, and know that it’ll just be a matter of time to heal.

dare I say it?

Nope. Not going to say the vw is fixed. It’s just temporarily running right now. This past week I had to replace a wheel bearing seal that I had improperly put back on the car when reassembling it, causing it to be cut up rather than keep the transmission fluid from leaking out. After replacing it I let the car sit for a couple days, and it seemed to still be leaking some… but after unleashing a can of brake parts cleaner on the area to clear out the excess fluid sitting around, it seems to be dry still.
Yesterday (Saturday 11/5) I drove the car around the neighborhood some and adjusted the timing a little. Seems to be running ok, though I’ve got to have an exhaust leak somewhere since it does do a semi-backfire thing when decelerating with the car in gear (it’s always done that). One thing I should order is new brake pads as I have one nearly worn out, but I’m not sure why as it’s only one pad on one wheel, and only one end of that one pad… oh well. next time I do a parts order I’ll get some.

Update: (as requested by anonymous)

One day a week+ ago I jump started the “fixed” vw and drove into the front yard to wash the car as it’s been a long time, and others have been cutting wood in the garage and making sawdust. After pulling out, I noticed a wet spot on the cardboard under the car. Transmission fluid. Right now I am awaiting new rear bearing seals, which should be here any day now. (The tracking #’s say 2 out of 3 boxes will be here tomorrow, but those boxes are mostly Whit’s new exhaust system.) While washing the car I left the engine running to charge the battery, but it wasn’t enough and the car will still not turn over on it’s own. Oh well.
This time last year I took the car out and drove around photographing it around the area for an excuse to drive it. With the beautiful weather this past weekend I was reminded of that excursion, but instead of wanting to drive the vw, I was glad to be driving the neon. Am I that scared to drive the car? I used to say I’d take an old car over a modern vehicle any day, but with all the trouble I’ve had, the reliability of a new vehicle is very appealing. I feel like a sell out for even saying that, and the vw was only a “daily” driver for a couple months. And by “daily” I mean it was my only means of transportation, but I drove it maybe once a week. For my next vehicle I’m pretty sure I’m going to get a small truck, such as a Colorado or Tacoma. I’d love to get a WRX (STI?), Mini or a Wrangler, but they don’t have the towing capacity needed to haul a broken down VW.

Come, have a look around. Take your shoes off. Enjoy. Read through my rantings and ravings, or see the latest photos from last weeks car show/ ultimate tournament.
