Where will the market go?

December 1st, 2008 @ 9.45 pm

Unless you live under a rock, it seems the financial sky is falling everywhere I look. If you told me that I’d be paying under $2 per gallon for gasoline in five months just this past July, I would have laughed in your face, but prices for gasoline have fallen as low as $1.79 per gallon or lower.

Annapolis Photo Scavenger Hunt

November 16th, 2008 @ 11.50 pm

Sailboat bow This blustery and cold November afternoon our small group got together for a photo scavenger hunt in downtown Annapolis.  We split up as couples and had the task of taking and submitting five pictures in each of three categories as selected by us three couples: necessary but often overlooked, trash, and hardware.  This picture is one of our entries for the hardware category.   The competition was strong, but in the end Beverly and I were choses as the winners through a points based voting system involving three impartial judges.

Where does God want us?

November 9th, 2008 @ 8.47 pm

One question Beverly and I keep coming back to is what is God’s plan for us, and where does he want us? He’s given us both great jobs in the Columbia area, and a place to live very close to my office until next spring. But in terms of our friends and church family, we feel in limbo. We love our friends from college, even though they’re becoming more and more scattered across the world, and we’ve been in a good small group at church, but that is a 40 minute drive away in Arnold. But we don’t feel settled at all.

We feel like we’re missing God’s plan for us. Should we look for a house in Columbia and find a new church? Should we look for a house closer to Arnold and drive farther to work, but still have a 15 mile drive to Broadneck EP Church? Should we move to Catonsville that is both farther from work and just as far from church, but is cheaper, has more of a small town feel, and is where both of us went to college? Should we quit our jobs and become missionaries/ photo journalists/ ambassadors of Ultimate in a foreign country? Read the rest of this entry »

New Host

November 7th, 2008 @ 5.42 pm

You probably haven’t noticed anything change, but a lot has changed in the background. I just transferred my website from Blue Fish Hosting to Blue Host. Not a huge difference in name, but hopefully a better web host. The old one wasn’t too bad, I can’t really complain that much, but it did have some features I wasn’t the most fond of, and so I decided to make the jump as my subscription with them is running out. Whit and Rowan are married!

October 15th, 2008 @ 6.16 pm

On Saturday Whit and Rowan were married and now the two are enjoying their honeymoon somewhere in Costa Rica. During the ceremony Beverly served as the Matron of Honor and I was a groomsmen. Simply being a part of a wedding is much less work than being the bride/ groom, however Beverly did put a bit of effort into a bridal shower and some effort for a bachelorette party while Whit just got a bachelor party thrown by the Best Man Chris Cheng. The ceremony was held at Rowan’s church in Dunkirk, MD (down in Calvert County), and the reception was across the hall from the sanctuary in the same building. Although we ended up with a happily married couple, our wedding was completely different than there’s in so many ways, it’s hard to really compare the two. Read the rest of this entry »

Slowriders Slam

October 15th, 2008 @ 5.18 pm

I made it, with breaking down only once. With only about two hours of run time on my parts engine in the car, we headed out for the show. Just as I was going to slow down and merge from the Beltway to Harford Rd, there was a bang and my engine died. So I pulled past my exit by a few feet onto the shoulder, and pulled open the decklid. The bang was the cylinder #1 spark plug flying out of it’s hole. Luckily the engine wasn’t overly hot (in a weird twist of fate…), and I was able to get the socket set out and put the spark plug back in, tighten it down, and refire the engine. After backing up a couple car lengths, we were off again to the show without any more incidents. Read the rest of this entry »
